Fun in Math at Cooper
By Stephanie Dixon
Third grade students in Ms. Shires and Ms. Horta’s class at Cooper Elementary had a great time in math class. The lesson of the day included marshmallows and toothpicks.
Students made angles with the objects and had a great time. Students focused on three different angles, right, acute, and obtuse. A right angle is 90 degrees and forms a square corner. The acute angle is less than 90 degrees also called “a cute little angle.” The obtuse angle measures more than 90 degrees and is a big angle. The students used a deep voice when saying the word obtuse.
Everyone had a great time in math class with the visual aids. Raymond liked building the angles and Ashley enjoyed eating the angles or marshmallow treats.
