The students in Ms. Bauer’s class at West Clayton Elementary invited friends and family members to join them in the classes’ annual tradition of “Poetry Café,” reading their own creative work covering a variety of subjects to those on hand.

With topics ranging from school, friends, pets, family, and summer vacation, the kids took turns standing before their classmates and the visitors to present their poems.  Some students worked in teams of two, while others did their reading solo.  Several students took on the role of MC for the event, introducing the “poets” as they took to the stage.  The first graders also did all of the set up and production, and refreshments were served at intermission to complete a fantastic event.
