Mambas "Beat the Heat"

By Chris Gosek
The U14 Mambas Boys soccer team represented the Capital Area Youth Soccer League (CASL) in grand fashion at the “Beat the Heat” tournament held in Winston-Salem, toppling all opponents in their path en route to an impressive first place finish.
The Mambas continued their season long climb, that has seen them continue to improve and grow at the “Beat the Heat” event.  A high powered offense, a disciplined defense, and some stellar goal keeping helped the squad streak past the competition and earn the championship trophy.  They began tournament play with a 4-0 shut out win over NMSC White, before coming back later the same day to upend the Wilson Explosion by a 3-1 final score.  That set up the boys for a semi-final match with GUSA ’97 that saw them explode offensively for a 6-1 victory.  The championship game again was a defensive struggle, with the Mambas battling their way to a 2-0 win and the tourney crown.
