East Wake Middle compete in Special Olympics

Going for the Gold

By Chris Gosek

Students from Ms. LeBlanc’s ID Moderate Level III class at East Wake Middle traveled to Ravenscroft in Raleigh this past Friday to compete in the Special Olympics, showing great sportsmanship and excelling in each event they took part in.

After East Wake student, Merrick Smith had the honor of reciting the oath during opening ceremonies, nine different students from the class participated in a wide array of events with all participants placing in either first or second place in their given event. Matthew Siems, Shania Wilson, Kendall Roberts, Ketrell Estes, Ryley Price, Kayla Lashley, and Joshua Darden all earned blue ribbons for finishing first in at least one event on the day. Red ribbons were awarded to Elise Goodheart and Merrick for their second place finishes at the Olympics. Ms. Le Blanc was proud of all of the students involved, noting that they showed great sportsmanship and participation.
