Dancing Together
By Chris Gosek
The entire fifth grade class at Wendell Elementary took part in a social dance “informance” before parents and faculty, incorporating their recent social studies lessons and practicing the art of cotillion dance.
The students learned cotillion dance, which is a form of social dancing that was done in ballrooms throughout the 18th century and focused on teaching manners and social skills. While at first the boys and girls were hesitant to dance together, it was obvious from the fantastic performance they put on that they not only learned the steps but also enjoyed working together. The informance also served to teach the children to have positive interaction and improved their social skills.
