Happy Birrthday, Dr Suess
By Chris Gosek
Classrooms all across Riverwood Elementary this past Friday were celebrating the birthday of the legendary children’s author, Dr. Suess, doing a variety of fun filled educational activities based on his classic tales.
All of kindergarten classrooms were getting into the spirit of Dr. Suess’ big day, with several students from Ms. Haskins’ third grade class visiting the younger kids and reading them an assortment of stories including “Green Eggs and ham,” There’s a Wocket in My Pocket,” and “The Foot Book,” among many others. Ms. Jones’ kindergartners’ made and wore their very own red and white striped top hats; much like the one wore by “The Cat in the Hat.” Ms. Olive and Ms. Methot’s students worked on a fun, yet somewhat messy project, creating “oobleck.” After becoming familiar with the Suess classic, “Bartholomew and the Oobleck,” the two classes used a mixture of glue, water, and food coloring to recreate the green, gooey substance featured in the book.
