Mrs. Whitehouse's 5th Grade

Stamps on History

By Marta Whitehouse

Finding a unique way to report on Black History, Mrs. Whitehouse's fifth grade students created postage stamps of famous Black Americans.

On the day of the report, several students dressed, acted, and brought in products that represented the inventions of their characters. One student reporting on Louis Armstrong learned to play a song of his on a saxophone and played it in front of the class! Another brought hair products and explained the purpose for each one. One was the cowboy, Bill Pickett and said, "Howdy" to start his report. Yet another student reported that Barack Obama collects comic books, as her interesting fact!
