Wolves Howl Past WFR
By Chris Gosek
The Wendell Middle School boys’ basketball team sprinted out to an early cushion and never looked back, continuing to pad their lead with each passing quarter in a convincing 47-23 home win over Wake Forest-Rolesville.
The Wolves used a balanced and quick offensive assault to carry a 24-14 lead into halftime, before making an early third quarter run that found them ahead 36-19 heading into the final stanza. Stephen Harris led the wide-open Wolves’ offense with ten points, while Tyler Burton knocked in eight points in the victorious effort. Stephon Harris chipped in seven points and Andrew Carroll added six to the Wendell side of the scoreboard as well. Andre Willis dropped in five points thanks to some nifty free throw shooting, with Jordan Shannon and Clarnell Watkins swishing in four and three points apiece respectively. DJ Meyers and Caleb Cooper rounded out the Wolves’ scoring onslaught with two points each. Also playing hard in quality minutes on the court to aid in the big conference win were Tyrell Jones, Tanner Denton, Joshua Shonek, Austin Vernon, Clifton Freeman, and Solomon Debnam.
Following their big home triumph, Wendell will get back into the gym for practice as they tune up for their next crucial league contest, when they take on rival East Wake Middle this Thursday.
