Calculating Acceleration

Working individually, before sharing their work in a classroom discussion, Ms. Fekete’s students at East Wake Middle were working in math on calculating acceleration.
The kids were taking word problems written out by Ms. Fekete and utilizing the formulas, they had learned in this math unit to apply them and arrive at their answers. The kids were basing the formulas they used on initial velocity, final velocity, and time. Showcasing the great progress they have made in developing their writing skill this school year at Forestville Elementary, Ms. Froelich’s students took a look back at themselves and how they progressed in a writing assignment, “All About Me.” The kids each recalled several events they felt were important points of the past school year in their pieces. Hodge Road Elementary creating their own businesses
Market Day

Mrs. Lane's class at Hodge Road Elementary has been learning in social studies about how our economy works, culminating in the kids creating their own “businesses” for “Market Day.”
The students touched on many aspects of the economy during the unit including, needs vs. wants, supply, demand, different types of resources, scarcity, interdependence, imports, exports, and interstate/international trade. They then used the knowledge learned to become entrepreneurs. The kids first created a business plan and once approved began to bring their business to life through making a store ad, price list, resources, and some even developed partnerships with other students. Throughout this lesson, students earned “Market Bucks” that they would be able to use on Market Day. The class also took part in “Interstate Trade Day” in wrapping the unit up, when they exchanged goods and services with Mrs. Smith’s class who completed the same project. Read More ...

Zebulon Elementary group working
Which State am I?

Wrapping up a geography lesson with Mr. Chartrand at Zebulon Elementary, students were working in groups to test their knowledge of recognizing directions as they answered the riddle, “What State am I?” The kids were given a set of clues that led them to discover bordering states across a map of the United States as they sought out the answers to this riddle. Recognizing as they moved north, south, east, or west of their targeted states, each team was to find a different state in the union during this task.
